Act Four

The following links will take you to the web pages of some of my former students and friends.

Solange De Santis took my Theatre Ontario directing course in 2004. She is a journalist with a lively style who covers the arts with a special interest in theatre. She has written for The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, The Globe and Mail, American Theatre Magazine and Stage Directions magazine. She also directed a studio production of David Ives' one-act play "The Philadelphia" for the Burl-Oak Theatre Group's annual meeting in June, 2006. She has served as stage manager, assistant stage manager, properties master and sound designer for community theatre shows in Milton and Oakville, Ontario. We greatly enjoy our jaunts to Stratford several times per year. Her articles and theatre activities can be found on her Web site: www.solangedesantis.com. Solange is also expending her energies in raising her daughter Florence who was recently cast as Zack the camel in Tim O'Brien's show "The Smallest Camel”. If you read Solange’s book “Life On The Line” you will learn the origins of Miss Flo’s name and any resemblance to a 2006 hurricane is purely coincidental

Composer Tim O'Brien has written three excellent musicals for young people that are a delight for both performers and audiences. They may be previewed and purchased through Big Dog Publishing of Tallevast, Florida. The link for Big Dog Publishing is Bigdogplays. If you go looking, his shows "The Garden", "The Jungle" and “The Smallest Camel” are listed under the category of MUSICALS. Tim has downloaded sample clips of melody lines for his shows and the scripts are available for perusal on the web page. If your theatre work involves young people, you’ll find Tim’s work fresh and engaging – sure to provide entertainment and food for thought. What more can you ask when you’re teaching the next generation of theatre people?

This is a link to my favorite niece Suzanne Wyllie, who is an amazingly talented singer. Check out her site and download some of her music!

My friend Caroline Smith founded the Stirling Festival Theatre about ten years ago and I am happy to have helped in the formation of this exciting summer stock company. Caroline has done an excellent job with building Stirling Festival Theatre and, as a result, the company enjoys tremendous community support. Stirling Theatre offers various events during the off-season, too, so keep checking their web page for the latest updates!

Matt Cassidy is a former student from the Music Theatre Department, and his web page is well worth a look! Matt -- and a lot of his friends -- can be found here.

My friends, David Switzer and Theresa Sears , are gifted acting teachers and really entertaining people. And I’m not just saying that because they recommend my book on acting to their students; they really know their stuff!

Stage Kids Theatre Company presents socially relevant musical productions to thousands of high school students throughout central Ontario every year. There’s a huge amount of talent in everyone attached to this organization.

Daniel Levinson is a talented and imaginative fight choreographer. His work has made some of my Shakespearean shows look amazing, and my students have all enjoyed working with him.

Dave Yee is a writer who achieved considerable success with his plays while at University. I directed one of his plays for the Ottawa Fringe Festival in June 2000 and we received a very good review from The Ottawa Citizen. Dave has a real gift for writing sparkling dialogue. Two of his plays ran in New York City in the summer of 2002 and he is joining the Playwrights Lab at Factory Theatre in Toronto during the 2002-03 season.

Kenny Chan is one of my favorite former students and his site is well worth the read.

Bobby Del Rio was another student of mine in the Theatre and Drama Studies Department. A gifted all-rounder who already is making his mark in theatre and film.

David Eden studied with me many years ago at Sheridan College, and our friendship has grown since then. He and his company, "To Hell and Back", had a lot of success last summer at Fringe Festivals with this show he adapted from Douglas Coupland’s work.

My friend Bob Worrall has formed a group called "Scantily Plaid" (he's a bagpiper!) and set up a web page worth visiting.

Ken & Pat Grant worked with me during my short-lived period as a high school teacher some three decades ago, but we have kept in touch since their return to Australia. I think you'll find their story and photos interesting.
